Small Ways to Save the Planet - Animal Consumption

Image
I would like to start this post with a DISCLAIMER because I really don't want people to be put off by this post being written by a preachy vegan, which there is no denying I am but it is not what this is going to be. I ate meat for around 18 years of my life and I loved it, sausages and chicken burgers were my favourite thing in the world and I had meat and/or fish so every meal. It's been about a year since I started to feel a bit weird about eating meat and since then I have come to learn about how unsustainable a meat dependent diet is for the planet, particularly in the Western world. This is NOT judging. This is NOT arguing. This is just how it is. With that, I hope you decide to continue with this instalment of Small Ways to Save the Planet...pretty please The planet is what I am truly passionate about and for just over a year now I have been trying to find new ways to lead a more sustainable life. This is something I believe we all need to do and the good new...

Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows | Book Review

Today I wanted to try something new and write about a book I have recently finished. I've been vegan for just over 6 months and have loved every minute of it, so this was an extremely difficult read, but an important one. I think every vegan/vegetarian has lost sight once or twice or just simply switched back to eating animal products. I personally will never judge someone for slipping up, I've slipped up before and I probably will again and I am not at all proud of it but it happens to the best of us. I found that this book really cements why I have made the decision to switch to veganism and how proud I am of myself. However, people who do consume animal products should not be put off. Modern day carnism is an extremely interesting, though difficult concept. Now, I am very aware that my turnin...

My (Failed) Giant Panda Experience at Singapore Zoo

Image
We had known for a little while that for our first proper day in Singapore was going to be spent at the zoo and we were both really excited when that day came around, well, I was probably just a tad more excited ;). This was because I had found out the zoo had Giant Pandas, which are my all time favourite animal and I've always dreamed of seeing one. It is obviously a more expensive day out than the usual traveller budget, but it is without a doubt the best zoo I've ever been to. I don't usually agree with the concept of zoos, I think an animal should only be kept in captivity if it is unable to survive in the wild. Trust me when I say I have experience with bad zoos, aka animal prisons *cough* Moscow zoo *cough*, that have left me in tears due to such poor animal welfare. So when I say good zoo, I don't use the term lightly. However, I will say I am very against the Elephant show put on at Singapore Zoo, we were told by multiple people not to miss it and how a...
