Why You Should Go to Singapore

So I was going to try and do Singapore as one long last post of our travels. But since seeing how many photos we have and just how much we did...that's going to be impossible. Our short trip was filled up with 3 main things:
1) Random Exploring
2) The Singapore Zoo (kinda twice but we'll get into that)
3) Gardens by the Bay
...we also ended up seeing Dunkirk at the IMAX while we were there, which was awesome but not awesome enough to earn it's own blogpost

I 'm going to have to take a moment here to appreciate Singapore airport because oh my god it is the best place in the world. We didn't even use it to it's full potential, and it's still the best place in the world. In Changi airport you can go on a nature trail through sunflower, cactus, orchid and butterfly gardens. If that's not your style, you can visit the cinema or entertainment areas with games consoles or the SWIMMING POOL or the SLIDE. Not to mention all the stuff you find in other boring airports like shopping and restaurants. So, if you ever find yourself needing to make a stopover in Changi airport, do yourself a solid and make it a long one ;)

I don't think I have ever walked more in one day than we did exploring Singapore. Most hotels there are expensive compared to the other parts of Asia we had visited, so for the only time during our trip, we stayed in shared dorm rooms. It was a bit weird and I'm glad we didn't have to do it again, but honestly it really wasn't as bad as I was expecting and the place was a lot nicer than some of the horrors we had come across on our trip. Also it had free toast 24/7 so I appreciated it's values ;). It did mean that we couldn't really just chill in our room though, so we pretty much spent the hours of 10am to 10pm out and about (we are lazy so that's kinda a big deal for us).

Our first evening we went exploring and walked around the famous Marina Bay, where we managed to stumble across rehearsals for a crazy light and musical show for Singapore's annual anniversary celebrations each August. People were dressed up as the Gardens by the Bay trees and rapping about Singapore, it was amazing.

Singapore is one of my absolute favourite places for a numerous reasons, but the main one has to be how beautiful and green it is. The designers of this incredible modern city have managed to create a beautiful marriage between infrastructure and nature, which I would love to see in more cities around the world in the future. There is green space everywhere you look with trees being made as important as buildings. I'm pretty sure you guys know I'm an eco-freak by now so I absolutely loved it and had so much respect for the city instantly.

Singapore is also super super safe and you don't feel uncomfortable walking alone at night or having to get public transport. This was a huge deal for us considering we had a bad experience in Vietnam which left us very shaken up for the rest of our trip, but in Singapore everything just felt right.

Lastly, of course, FOOD. There is so much good food everywhere and it's reasonably priced (hallelujah). We had some amazing steam buns in Chinatown...I can taste them while I'm writing this and now I'm hungry dammit. Also, I don't really know what you would call it, but they have outside food hall area things where there are little separate kitchens all in a line with one or two long tables and benches outside each one. They all sell pretty much the same noodle based dishes, but oh man we had some dumpling ramen that was absolutely amazing.

Singapore was a city I could really see myself living in and now that's on my bucket list so fingers crossed. I absolutely loved every minute of our time there and would recommend for everyone else to experience this bustling, yet beautiful and friendly city at some point in their life. I mean their mascot is a Merlion for crying out loud, how much cooler can you get?

My next posts will be all about the amazing Singapore Zoo and Gardens by the Bay, which I have so many pictures from it's ridiculous

    1. It's quite a long story and I wasn't sure whether or not to do a post about it because it is quite complicated, but basically we were almost robbed in a taxi and it was very scary. I know lots of people who have gone to Vietnam and had an amazing trip, but personally that experience really ruined it for me, sadly xx
