A City of Nature - The End of Our Adventure

Well it took me long enough, but I still can't believe this is my last travelling post. I can't think of a better way to end it than with Gardens By The Bay, one of my favourite places from the whole trip. I just love the fact this huge nature park, home to over 1,000,000 plants, is in the middle of the city. It is home to the Dragonfly lake, Heritage Gardens, Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, and of course the magnificent Supertree Grove.

The Flower Dome is the largest glass greenhouse in the world, and obviously is home to an abundance of flowers.

The Cloud Forest hosts a walkway that wraps around a 35m high mountain in the middle of the dome. I am awful with heights so walking this had me scared as hell, especially when my ever so loving boyfriend nudged me, causing me to scream in front of all the other people (including children) walking along it without a care in the world. The walkway had glass panels on either side, which even though I know they are perfectly safe, my brain just refuses to accept that information. I don't like heights ok. Which is why I was secretly quite pleased we didn't join the queue for the Skyway between the Supertrees in time to walk it that night but shhh, that's a secret.

Once night falls, the 25 - 50m Supertrees light up and perform the Garden Rhapsody show. The night we were there it was a show tune melody, it was truly memorising and I'm so thankful I got to experience something so magical. 11 of the trees are fitted with solar panels to collect the energy to perform this show sustainably.

Gardens By The Bay is probably one of my favourite places in the whole world. I absolutely loved our evening there and would give anything to do it again. My favourite thing about the gardens is the education they provide on climate change and the importance of saving our fabulous planet.

Singapore was probably my favourite destination we visited during our 3 month trip in SE Asia, I love the co-operation between nature and technology the city provides and I have been left with the growing desire to live there one day. From Singapore we flew back to Bangkok, where we pretty much just chilled and picked up any last minute souvenirs for 3 days before going back home to Blighty, which we were missing like mad at that point!

Thank you for reading all about our adventure. It seems mad I can't write about it anymore and even more mad that in just under a month, it will be a year since we jetted off. It's devastating to think the thing that took over our lives for so long (planning, saving up, actually doing etc.) has finished, but it fills me with so much happiness to know that I am capable of accomplishing such an amazing experience, and there will definitely be more to come.

  1. Wow it’s so beautiful! I really want to go here. I’m scared of heights too but make myself climb high things. It scares me but I like to push past my fear in the hope that I won’t be afraid anymore and because I don’t want to miss out on the experience. Great post! 😊💗
